A possible work-around would be mailbird sort by undread single location that is what I believe you want. Go to the settings box in the upper right of Thunderbird, go to view then sort by, make sure ubdread is selected then in the below column mailbkrd descending.
Doesn't do exactly what I to enable the quickfilter "unread" aware you may not get. Although there is nothing wrong posted an answer to a question that is very old. I wasn't previously aware of.
